Pathways Enhanced Resettlement Service (PERS) is a small outreach service based at HMP Standford Hill that has been set up to support new residents who meet criteria for the OPD pathway. They are residents who for various reasons might struggle with the transition from closed to open conditions and with transition from open conditions to the community. The service is voluntary with residents who meet criteria opting in. It is not a mandatory service.

What does our service do?
PERS is an opt in service, it focusses on transition in and transition out/ graduation. The transition in phase for newly arrived residents lasts for around 3- 6 months and includes a 4-week transitions in group (once a week for 4 weeks) each group session has a theme linked to transition; self-sabotage, good lives for example. Those that opt into the service are also allocated a keyworker who are senior officers or CM. The keyworker will meet with the resident fortnightly 1-1 for the period of transitioning in. Less formal workshops and activity events are also offered. We recently commissioned Geese theatre to host 4 workshops for PERS, one has taken place and was very well received by residents. Other activities include darts, bowls, and cooking activities, as well as visits/talks from other professionals such as Probation services.
Who is this service for?
PERS is an outreach service established to support residents of HMP Standford Hill, Category D establishment who meet OPD (Offender Personality Disorder) criteria. We have a capacity for around 20 active cases.
PERS as with Standford Hill generally is a male only estate but includes those that identify as trans-gender. Though a relatively new service PERS historically works with those who have served long sentences. This has changed somewhat recently with residents serving shorter determinant sentences becoming involved with the service, due to changes in parole conditions. We will be monitoring this going forward.
Recent transfers to HMP Stanford Hill who meet OPD criteria or have otherwise complex needs that would benefit from the support of the PERS team. New transfers to Standford Hill are screened for the PERS service rather than referred in.
