HMP/YOI Aylesbury

  • Pathways is a non-residential service, embedded within HMP/YOI Aylesbury. The team has a wide range of experience and occupations, offering a variety of interventions and services for the people in the service. The team work with the wider prison to help the service users cope with prison, progress through their sentence and prepare for transition onto other prisons or to the community.

What does our service do?

Men accessing Pathways are given an individualised trauma informed treatment plan, which includes individual and group interventions. These are aimed to address both clinical and risk needs. The service continues to work with those accessing work, education, and offending behaviour programmes within the wider prison. All interventions draw on attachment, trauma-informed and relational approaches to personality development and treatment. We offer the following:

  • Weekly key work sessions jointly with clinical and operational staff 
  • Individual Therapy tailored to the individual 
  • Medium term group Therapy (6-16 weeks) 
  • Longer term Group Treatment (12-18 months) 
  • Co-produced interventions 
  • Occupational Therapy tailored to the Individual - sensory based approaches, socially creative groups, yoga, cooking
  • Therapeutic Music sessions both 1:1 and group 
  • Art Therapy both 1:1 and group 
  • Creative Psychotherapy / Drama both 1:1 and group 
  • Systemic – with individuals and their families 

Who is this service for?

HMP/YOI Aylesbury is a category C prison for men. It has a capacity of 40 people.

The people accepted into the service are: 

  • Screened into the OPD Pathway 
  • Assessed at some point during current sentence as presenting a high likelihood of violent offences and high or very high risk of harm.
  • Personality difficulties likely to meet criteria for a personality disorder. • Risk linked to personality difficulties/disorder. 
  • At least 12-months remaining on sentence 
  • Category C 
  • Has the potential to benefit from the psychologically informed nature of Pathways’ interventions 
  • Recalled for breaching licence conditions

Service users need to currently reside within the prison prior to being referred. Referrals can be either from staff within the establishment or self-referrals. We may be able to consider external referrals on consultation.
