Who We Support
Aims:
- Establish a more psychologically informed workforce
- Improve the quality of relationships
- Ensure that staff are trained and supervised
- Improve the effectiveness and quality of services
The strategy says that the treatment and management of this population is psychologically and socially informed and led by psychologically trained staff in HMPPS and the NHS.
Two key elements:
- Developing specialist OPD teams e.g. Psychologists, PDPO’s to have specialist expertise in the field
- Training and supporting non-OPD staff e.g OM’s, prison officers to enhance their management of PD offenders
Having a psychologically informed workforce is one of the key primary goals of the OPD pathway. Based on building confidence and competence in staff through enhancing knowledge and skills.
Workforce development is achieved through attending training, and also through their own learning and experience in consultations and working with PD practitioners developing formulation and pathways plans.
